Rising Main and Pump Station Works
Project Overview
In 2024, Doocey Group were appointed main contractor to undertake construction works for the drainage network separation scheme.
Comprising 174no. occupied dwellings, works were carried out over a duration of 38 weeks, with minimal disruption.
Prior to works commencing and through the project lifecycle, a robust stakeholder engagement plan was developed in consultation with the client and was implemented to ensure delivery of the planned completion dates and programme milestones were not impacted.
Site Establishment and Surveys
As part of the mobilisation works, 2 areas were provided by the client for main contractor compound and materials storage.
Approximately 700m2 of grassland was topsoil stripped and bunded. The areas were then converted to working areas for plant, materials storage and welfare facilities including additional facilities for the client.
Prior to works commencing, a comprehensive dilapidation survey was carried, backed up with a detailed report including video and photographic records.
Upon completion of the works, these areas were reinstated to a condition better than when encountered, exceeding the clients’ specification.
Off Site Rising Main
3100m of rising main installed to the Point of Discharge with methods of Horizontal Directional drilling and open cut in conjunction with a new 1700m potable water main and 1400m of HV cables.
Coordination of the three utilities were significant to the success of the project and to satisfy conditions that the local highways representatives were insistent upon to keep their network live with limited interruption.
Gravity Pipes
A 550m run of 150mm clay sewer pipe was installed via open cut at an average depth of 4m.
A total of 12no. manholes were also constructed to design specification.
Deep excavations required temporary works designed by Doocey’s in-house temp works coordinator and installed by our expert roads and sewer teams.
Trench boxes were used to allow longer working areas, driving efficiencies and increasing productivity. Using safe-digging practises and continuous vigilance, a number of unchartered services were identified and safely located.
Where this prevented the use of trench boxes, our teams installed close board sheet piles, timber and hydraulic support equipment, ensuring the work areas were always safe.
Pump Station
To fully separate the existing private network, a new pump station with 28m3 of storage was required to be constructed to Wessex Water specification.
