Our Charity Golf Day raises over £13,000
On the 19th May, 2017 the Doocey Group hosted their 7th annual golf day at Great Barr Golf Club. Over the past 6 years we have raised in excess £70,000 for various causes, including over £40,000 for Acorns Children’s Hospice.
This year it was in support of Ava Fallon, an 8 year old girl living her life affected by an inoperable brain tumour diagnosed at twenty months old. The tumour is on the thalamus which is described as the ‘fuse-box’ of the brain and affects all aspects of her life. The whole left side of her body will never be fully functioning. She can’t walk, is non-verbal and finds social interaction hard when it’s not family. With over £13,000 raised in 2017, Ava will receive additional support to increase her quality of life in the form of therapy and important equipment- such as a comfortable ceiling hoist to provide Ava with safe transfer to her bed and bath as she gets older and heavier to lift. Additionally, the process of adding a bedroom and bathroom downstairs in the family home for Ava will also receive a significant boost from the outcome of our golf day.
“It’s been another fantastic event this year for the Doocey Group and donating the proceeds to Ava and her family is a wonderfully worthy cause. It’s obviously extremely sad to see a young person being subjected to difficulty in their life and we’re proud to be able to help where we can, by putting on events such as these in order to raise both awareness of and proceeds for this great cause.”
