Tewkesbury MOD – 11kV Ashchurch
Project brief
Doocey Group were awarded the contract from National Grid Electrical Distribution for the installation of two new 11KV cable circuits from Northway Lane Primary Substation travelling through the residential area of Ashchurch to a new LOC substation on the site of the new MOD development Ashchurch, Tewkesbury. The project comprised of a 4.07 km duct installation, 8.14km cable installation, preparation of joint bays, 11kv triplex cable jointing and all associated traffic management.
The scheme included several challenging SEDs, which included a bridge crossing over the M5, a section requiring a horizontal directional drill (HDD) under a Network Rail line asset and working within an MOD site.
Doocey Group completed investigation works prior to works commencement to fully understand depth of bridge decking or if spare duct could be utilised. From the investigation works it was established that no spare duct could be utilised and a site meeting with NGED confirmed that ducting would be laid directly on top of the bridge deck and steel plates installed above prior to reinstatement been completed, within this section Doocey Group liaised with National Highways to plan a temporary works schedule to introduce an anti-debris mitigation system. In addition to this Doocey Group and their partners liaised with Network Rail to apply for the BAPA to underpin the asset insertion via HDD. Lastly Doocey Group liaised with the multi contractor group led by MACE to coordinate the works within MOD Ashchurch.
There was a section of public highway which was required to be closed, collaboration with DTM and with the local farms was critical to ensure minimal disruption was felt by all during that period of works. Delivery of the project was to our client expectations with zero customer complaints received.

I just wanted to send a quick email saying how good the Doocey Group teams have been on the MOD job at RASC Ashchurch. I have spoken with them personally on numerous occasions thanking them on how helpful they have been.
